Time management is the theme with millions of listings in search engines. But does it really work?
Scientists analysed a great body of research gathered over the last 40 years across 158 studies involving over 53 thousand respondents from 6 continents, and revealed where the practice yields the most impressive results.
Which areas of life improve the most with time management?
It’s probably easier to say which areas don’t improve with the use of time management tools, as the results of using them are impressive.
- The practice of time management (TM) in the closest way correlates with one of the Big-5 qualities that modern psychology considers cornerstones of personality, conscientiousness, which in its turn directly relates to success in life. Conscientiousness involves the ability to focus, perseverance, systematic approach, consistency, and self-discipline.
- There is a strong correlation between practicing TM and life satisfaction (personal well-being).
- Results at career are strongly linked to the use of time management, especially in the last decade as people now can work remotely or have a flexible schedule.
- Academic results (study) also have moderate correlation to the use of TM.
- TM didn’t impact people’s results in general IQ tests, which is expected, as researchers noted.
- People using TM were much less stressed.
- Women are slightly better in utilizing TM instruments than men.
- People with internal locus of control (the ones who believe they have the ability to change their results) benefit more from utilizing TM.
All in all, by using time management people are showing improvement in all areas of life, except for intellect tests. But this only confirmed that it’s your efforts not intellect that produce impressive results in life.
Do you organize your time consciously? If not, you may want to start doing it to improve the quality of your life. It’s never too late!
