In fact, beauty is common in former Soviet Union (FSU) countries. Patriarchal (“traditional”) family values have a comeback in today’s Russia, with girls brought up from an early age that their most important goal in life is to get married and have a family. As such, females strive to get married by the age of 25 and single girls 26+ feel uncomfortable under the constant pressure from family and friends to find a husband.
This pressure is what drives females to perfect their looks, in order to attract and keep a man, making women’s beauty common rather than special.
You are seeing normal everyday girls and women on Slavic dating sites, although you may feel they are very attractive. But they don’t think they are special because of their looks. In their countries, they are considered average.
In a similar way, Slavic ladies you see on dating websites may think you are special because you do not abuse alcohol and have a stable job that pays over USD $2000/month, your own place to live and a car (in Russia and Ukraine you would have lots of females wanting to be with you), while you think it’s nothing special.
Demographics make life easier for men and harder for women
Because in post-USSR states there are 86 males to 100 females, good men are hard to find. And with females seeing their primary role in life as being a Wife and a Mother, guys can pick and choose.
So, these beautiful women you see on Slavic dating sites don’t have a problem to find a guy to go out with. But they do have a problem to find a man who wants a long term relationship and start a family with her.
With so many choices available to them, guys know they can easily find a wife. The ones who wish to settle down don’t stay single for long. But girls who want a serious relationship and a lifetime partner struggle. This is why so many beautiful women in Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine are single.

The tricky part is getting these women (at least one) to continue conversations past one or two emails. It’s quite frustrating, paying hundreds of dollars on this site each month, and still being single, because the women aren’t as serious about having a relationship as you are.

Your statement about inability to continue conversations past 1-2 emails is just as doubtful – unless your definition of a “relationship” is corresponding online for months.

I find it both a bit sad, and also greatly increasing my opportunities, that certain qualities that I take for granted from someone trying to find a good lady online… are actually considered valuable benefits for a man. If you don’t drink something = you Hercules, Prometheus and such fortitude and strength of will, that is fantastic. This is a very worthy of respect in Russia. I live about 5 houses in 25 floors, stands alone in a forest of 14 hectares of reserved forest and close to a large lake. It is located on the outskirts of Yekaterinburg. There is nothing wrong with drinking in moderation. It’s the abusing the drink that is the problem.
It takes just as much will power or even more for some people to say no more after 2 or 3 drinks in an evening.
Some people cannot do that. For those who can’t it is actually easier to quit and not touch the bottle.
Self control is the real issue….whether a person drinks or not! As for the issue of drinking or not….I agree it is better not to drink. And definitely some people should never ever drink.
Heh. I drink at most a half bottle of beer or so at a time, but I cannot claim to such great fortitude of will…. I’ve found that alcohol upsets my stomach, and while I like the flavor of some drinks, I would rather upset my stomach with a lot of good food, than with just a little good alcohol. Even if i would find a russian man no sense to be with him russian men mostly are lazy dont care of family dont love children egoistic narciss drink much after they have problems with potention cold bad in sex. i would better be alone than to be with such an example. yes a foreigh man is absolutly other culture but they mostly respect women and want family especcially eastern men.
Really, it is true, beautiful woman is often alone. I believe that this happens because of the woman. My friend, for example, make big demands to her future boyfriend.

Can someone tell me why many Russian/Ukrainian men feel the need to drink so much alcohol? (It obviously damages their health, relationships and employment prospects).

Drinking is a favorite cultural past time and part of bonding ritual between guys. A man who doesn’t drink will have even worse job prospects to move up, as all business issues are negotiated over a day zen of bottles of vodka in a sauna, in a company of men. Part of the reason why it’s hard for a woman in the ex-USSR to move up the ranks.
