One of the most popular publications on our site is the post about the age difference in a couple. Here is another opinion of someone who’s been there, done that and has the first hand experience.
John: “Age is just a number”
Hello everyone, my name is John and I’m 69.
I lost my wife of 35 years to cancer 8 years ago and vowed to myself never to go to a funeral again.
Since that time I have dated women from 19 to 68.
I have found one, she is 34 and things are progressing very well. She has never been married, does have children, but they accept me.
My kids are 51, 47 and 35, they don’t have an issue with it.
It’s been working extremely well for 3 years and now it’s time to slip a ring on.
At 69, you would think I’m “Over the Hill”, but that’s not the case by a long shot. We have a fantastic bedroom and share so many likes, it’s unbelievable.
Age is just a number, so I’ve been told and it truly is.
I feel like I’m her age and nothing stops us from doing things any young couple would do.
So, this age gap discussion is not a serious issue, unless you let it into your life.
She can cook, bait a hook, load a gun, snuggle up and watch TV, play with the kids and still has plenty of time for me.
I’ve retired twice, but still working as if I was 20.
If you have a problem with my 34-year-old future wife, I’m sorry, cause she doesn’t.
Enjoy what you can, when you can and be happy.
Just put your faith and best efforts into everything you do. There is no reason not to.
Her parents and some of my political friends have some issues, but then look at our President.
Therefore, some of you younger men or women that may be having these issues with other members of the family, just tell them how it is, in every aspect. And yes, that includes the bedroom, if they so dare to question it.
Enjoy your life as you want and if you are lucky enough to find someone to share the same virtues, don’t let them slip away.
Marriage is a 50/50 proposition: 50% of her telling you what to do and 50% of you doing it.
Just kidding.
Treat her as a queen, if you have the right one, she’ll treat you like a king.
NO hurt, no pain, no outside influence, you’ll be a great couple, as we are.

I find that in the UK we are so programmed to see a partner just within a few years of ourselves as acceptable However if you do broaden your horizons then you will find that the Russian and Ukranian women are far more flexible ! Age is just a number – it applies only to men. I doubt that a 60+ years women could find a 30 years old husband. Woman with children in her 34 is willing to marry much older men because she needs support. It is not about love but about comfortable living.

I will use a quote from the great American baseball legend Babe Ruth. “I always swing for the fences, I hit big or I miss big, everything I do is big”. If you are an older guy or woman, swing for the fences in love. You will miss big many many times, but when you get that hit, it will be a home run and you will have the person of your dreams.
Never settle for anything less than happiness.
William, Let’s be realistic here: Marriages with the age difference are no baseball. For a mature woman to get a puppy is no ‘swinging for the fences’. Young guys are a dime a dozen. They are like puppies. I think it may be very similar for an experienced and smart man, who knows what he is doing, with younger women. I understand what you are saying Elena, but I will say that Marriage, any marriage, is no game. I can’t talk for anyone but myself, I won’t let age get in the way of happiness. I also won’t let any other barrier deter me from finding love. Physical attraction is one aspect of attraction, if anyone puts too much into it, they will quickly learn that beauty fades. I just don’t believe in longevity of marriages with a large age difference, but you don’t have to listen to me the old grudge, hehe 😀
Look at Bruce Willis or Alec Baldwin, or even POTUS, they didn’t let any doubts deter them.

Rrrrr, as Elena says, you have a point but there are exceptions to any “rules”. It is the height of hubris and arrogance to make assumptions about their particular relationship as nothing more than oriented over comfortable living and not love. I can sympathize with this man because although I am not 69, I have had no problem dating women who are 30 years my junior because they are attracted to extremely strong men with confidence. Thank you John for your opinion. But let’s be realistic! 35 years gap – that’s too much. Would you marry your grandma? I dont believe its healthy. For how long this couple can enjoy sex? After the spouse have died what other half should do? I can believe in dating with person who’s old that much, but marriage – really??
Very interesting article! I also seek a younger wife so I wish be transparent. I would wish them well and assume that it is true love and not just a financial arrangement. I cannot help but think that when there is such a huge age gap like 35 years that the older person is not acting in a responsible manor. A most engaging discussion and as a 60 year old man I can empathise with ‘John’ even applaud him, however ‘John’ may enjoy promoting himself, Ive always considered this to be an indicator of the opposite truth. Even if this is the ‘truth’ make hay whilst the sun shines John, I can only hope your betrothed is as happy and satisfied as claimed. The love is a wonderful feeling. Sometimes its the only thing that can make people feel happy. Its like a medicine for spiritual wounds. So if two people love each other, isn’t their feeling is much more important than just some numbers in pasports?
