The European Union is preparing to increase the cost of Shengen visa from 60 to 80 Euro. The whole policy on entry permits is about to be revised to tackle problems of migration.
Visas to the European Union to become more costly
The European parliament is preparing to introduce changes to policies allowing a lawful entry to member countries.
The country representatives have already approved the draft legislation, Europa.eu reported. It will be possible to apply, fill in and sign an application for a Schengen visa online. For the first time the proposal to amend the code was made in March 2018.
Now it’s up to the European parliament to approve the proposed law together with the European Council.
The policies are modified with the view to offer better solutions to the problems of migration.
Costs of application for an entry permit are going to increase from the current level of €60 to €80. Prospective visitors will need to apply at least 15 days before the trip, but no more than 6 months in advance.
Travellers with a positive history of visits to EU should be getting a simplified procedure of approvals. They may be able to obtain a multi-entry visa for up to 5 years instead of the current 12-month period. Thus, frequent travellers will be able to save by applying once and using the same permit for 5 years.
Another mechanism that is going to be implemented is a better structure to send back the people who should not be present in the EU.
Ukrainians are able to travel to the countries of the European Union visa-free since June 2017. However, citizens of Russia still require to apply for a visitor’s visa to enter EU. To work or study in the EU Russians and Ukrainians still need special permits.
