Hehe it wasn’t only 10 years ago, it was 20 years ago:) videochat was already available before the creation of Skype and pretty common between the net users of that time who could pay for a cam:)
Erik, You seem to have a short memory. In 1995 (20 years ago) it wasn’t even 10% of people who had computers at home in the USA/Europe with Internet and a camera. It was early 2000’s that people still used dial up, which hardly allowed for a webcam dialog online. So, I would say, 10, maybe 12 years tops, for a video communication without limits. 🙂 But now all countries have it easily accessible, even in the middle of Africa or on small Indonesian islands, people have Internet connection and can chat on video. Mmm I don’t think I have a short memory, I reported my experience. I live in EU, I’m 36 and I surf since the age of 15. Between 1993 and 1999 it wasn’t strange between boys have a game console or a pc. I received my first pc at the age of 8 and one year later a game console, I think was the 87′. It’s very difficult to imagine our daily life without modern gadgets. They allow to do many things which were impossible before. And it’s great. The modern gadgets have changed the world. They are useful not only for long-distance communication and entertainment but for business and education, too.
Elena here is right. Alhough the technology existed there were few opportunities to establish a reliable video-chat without lags and glitches as internet connection speed was limited. Hey, 15 years ago I personally used those dial-up modems with 50 kbps capacity. 10 years ago it was 256 kbps ADSL – still no good for video feedback.
So lots of things have changed since then))

10 years ago was 2005, most of EU countries already had 2-4-8Mbs if not a fiber connection, which in italy arrived in 2000 and in 2005 was available in the big cities like Milan or Rome, otherwise you could have a DSL modem with 10Mbs.
Of course, someone could have even a modem 56k but it depends by him/her choice or my the availability of internet in his area and really, 2005 is already a “speedy year”.
Oh well, it doesn’t really matter whether it was some 10-15 years ago. Maybe someone is just about to install their first Skype, or Viber, or whatever! The variety is great nowadays. The point is that the site gives us the opportunity to find love and keep in touch anyway. I go for stability.
