According to a recent poll by WCIOM, 4 out of 10 Russians hope that 2021 will be a better year than the previous one.
Russians have high hopes for 2021
- 42% of Russian respondent in a recent survey by the All Russian Public Opinion Research Centre WCIOM.ru said they think the next year will be better for the country.
- 35% of respondents feel it will be about the same, not better, not worse.
- 16% of respondents (1 in 6) feel rather negative and think that the next year will be even worse.
Russian women are more optimistic than men, with 43% of ladies having high hopes, as compared to 40% of males.
Older Russians are the most optimistic from all age groups: 49% or nearly half of all participants aged 60+ hope for the best.
The most negative are people aged 45-59: 21% of participants in this group feel that the next year is going to bring more problems.
What positive things do Russians expect in 2021?
Winning against the virus was by far the most popular expectation for the next year. 21% or 1 in 5 users hopes to see the end of the pandemics in 2021.
9% of participants hope that the economic situation in Russia will improve, while further 7% hope that wages will grow. 6% of people would like prices to go down and inflation to slow down. The same share of people (6%) wishes for higher pensions for retirees.
Among other expectations:
- Higher level of life: 5%
- Opening of the international borders: 5%
- Drop in unemployment rates, more jobs: 5%
- Improvements in the health care system: 5%
- Vaccination against the virus: 3%
- Better international relations: 3%
- More social payouts for the ones in need: 3%
World peace scored 2% in the rating of expectations.
