According to a recent survey, 81% of Russians consider themselves happy.
4 out of 5 Russians are happy, research shows
A recent poll by WCIOM.ru showed that the vast majority of Russian respondents view themselves as happy.
Moreover, 29% of respondents believe that there are more happy people around them while 46% of survey participants think there are about equal proportions of happy and unhappy people around them. 17% of participants feel there are more unhappy people around them.
This is quite surprising that people who think about themselves as happy view others as less content with life than they are. However, only 31% of Russians are completely confident in their happiness (50% say they are “rather happy” than unhappy).
10% of respondents stated they are “rather unhappy” while 6% feel definitely miserable.
Things that make Russians happy
- Having a family: 34%
- Health (their own and family members’): 24%
- A good job: 20%
- Having kids: 18%
- Having financial security: 10%
- General contentment with life: 10%
- Having where to live: 7%
- Having a partner: 6%
Things that make Russians unhappy
- Financial difficulties: 7%
- Poor health (their own and loved ones): 6%
- Unemployment: 5%
- Lack of stability: 5%
- Bas situation in the country: 4%
Having a family (a partner and kids) remains the most significant source of contentment for Russian women and men. However, just having a partner seems not enough, apparently (only 6% feel happy about it), it needs to be marriage with kids.
