For the last 10 years Russians have became much more tolerant about their family members marrying someone from another country or nationality. Relationships where partners have large age gaps also became more acceptable.
Russians are getting more positive about international or intercultural marriages
The All-Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (WCIOM) asked locals about their views on differences in marriages. The results from July 2020 survey had been compared to 2010 review, and Russians have become more tolerant of all types of differences in a couple.
The complete results are included at the end of this post for your perusal.
- Russians are the most positive about their son, daughter or grandson marrying a person from a different type of settlement (city vs. country, small town vs. a large city): 32% of respondents would meet such news with approval and 62% of participants said they would view it neutrally. Only 4% of people would have a negative opinion about it.
- Age gap relationships would score the least approval: Only 12% of respondents said they would view it positively if a son or daughter marred someone from another generation. But still, 47% of participants said they would have a neutral attitude about it (1 in 2), while 36% (1 in 3) would view it negatively.
Marrying someone from another country
There were two questions relating to international marriages: about marrying someone from another country and a union with a person of a different nationality.
It should be noted that Russia is the country that accepts a lot of migrants (mostly from other republics of the former USSR) as well as has a large emigration, where locals move to places with higher level of life such as Europe, Canada, the USA, or Australia.
- 19% of Russians would approve a marriage with a foreigner, while further 56% would view it neutrally (75% altogether, or 3 in 4 in total). Only 22% of participants would see it as negative. In the previous survey from 2010, 30% of respondents stated that they would view marriage to a foreigner as negative. Now the attitudes are more positive.
- Similar attitudes had been expressed about marrying someone of another nationality: 21% of people would approve, 57% of survey takers view it as neutral, and 19% of users disapprove.
There are also many nationalities within Russia. Many nationalities have their own autonomous republics within the Russian Federation.

None of the profiles that I have read on this site have listed a preference for African or Arab men. This photo looks like the kind of woke politics being pushed by Western European and American media. I want to date a Russian woman because I’m looking for traditional values.
