A recent survey by a travel website in Russia revealed that 1 in 3 Russians experienced a holiday romance in their lives, with half of them having more than one vacation affair.

What is a holiday romance?

“Kurortnyj roman” (Russian: “курортный роман”) is a romantic encounter that happens between people who are away from home on a vacation. It could be between two single people or holiday makers who left the spouse at home and went to a health resort for a treatment program, for instance.

In other words, it is about a love affair between two people who are on a vacation away from home and most likely live in different cities.

Sometimes such affairs may continue after the participants return home. The people may decide they are so much in love that one of them moves to other person’s city, they get married, and live happily ever after. Things like this do happen, but more often than not such affairs are short lived.

2 in 3 Russians welcome the idea of holiday romances

According to a recent online poll by Tutu.ru, 31% of their users have experienced a holiday romance in their lives. 16% of people had it once, while 15% of survey participants enjoyed more than one love affair during vacations.

Further 32% of participants stated they didn’t have such an experience, but they are open to have one.

1 in 3 Russians said that they are “totally against it” (37%). Possibly, this is because they are married and this would be cheating. Otherwise, why would it be a problem?
