The most popular destination for Ukrainians traveling by bus is the capital of Poland, Warsaw.
Bus route Kiev to Warsaw tops the popularity rating
The bus route Kiev to Warsaw is the most popular in the whole of Ukraine, Finance.ua reported.
It seems that Ukrainians visit the capital of Poland more often than any other European city and buses are the cheapest way to get there.
Bus company Ecolines offers trips from Kiev to Warsaw for only 790 UAH (about USD 28). That’s a trip of about 800 km (500 miles) from one country to another. Students get discounted tickets for only 650 UAH (US $23).
Right now the company offers discounted tickets for only 474 UAH (US $17) and such discounts are a usual practice.
This is why Ukrainian women are able to travel to Europe and see the sights even though they are earning quite low wages. Since June 2017 citizens of Ukraine can travel to the countries of European Union without visas. The list doesn’t include UK.
As Andris Podgorniys, a CEO of the bus company Ecolines stated, even residents of Odessa, which is far from the Polish-Ukrainian border, frequently travel to Warsaw.
Other Polish cities are in demand, too. Many citizens of Ukraine work in Krakow, Wroclaw, Poznan, and Gdansk.
In total, 1 million Ukrainians have moved to live and work in Poland over the last 3 years. More than 2 million citizens of Ukraine currently work in Poland, according to officials. Over three-quarters of Ukrainian migrants in this country have a job related to manual labor. Only 1% of the migrants from Ukraine occupy senior management positions.
Labor migrants from Ukraine contribute to the economy of Poland
In 2018, Poland achieved the greatest increase in gross domestic product among the European Union states: 5%.
It was in a great extend due to the work of labor migrants from Ukraine. 90% of people who apply for a permanent residence in Poland are Ukrainian citizens. As Polish Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers chairman Caesar Kazmierczak stated, the majority of these migrants are employed as maids, housekeepers, and handymen. In order to obtain better job prospects, Ukrainians learn Polish.
It is mostly low wages, political instability, high cost of the US dollar and unemployment in Ukraine that push locals to seek jobs in other countries. But there are also other reasons, which include the lifestyle and higher confidence in the personal future.
According to a recent online poll by Segodnya, over 50% of Ukrainians would love to live and work abroad permanently. One citizen of Ukraine leaves to work abroad every 30 seconds, experts say.
