The cost of education in Ukrainian universities in 2020-2021 study year varies from 6 to 47 thousand hryvnia (US $226-1,770) annually.

Free education in Ukraine
Education in public schools is free in Ukraine. There are also limited numbers of places for students offered free of charge in best Ukrainian universities, although the number of such placements is limited.
Students who study for free are also eligible to get a stipend, if they show good results. The minimum monthly stipend in Ukraine is 1,300 UAH for university students. Maximum (special achievement) stipend is 1,660 UAH. Presidential university stipend is 2,200 UAH.
College and trade school students get from 490 to 1,900 UAH.
It’s possible to apply for up to 5 “budget” (free) places on different specialties. In 2019, a person was able to apply for up to 7 places.
- In 2019, over 60 thousand students got approved for “budget” placement in Ukrainian universities.
- From them, 87% took the opportunity and began their studies, which means, over 52 thousand students in total that were getting education for free.
How much does it cost to study in Ukraine?
In addition to so called “budget places” (free of charge) in universities, which are allocated on the basis of merit (both results of entrance exams and school grades are considered), there are “contract places”. Students studying via contracts pay for education.
- Students studying to get bachelor degrees pay 6-39 thousand hryvnia annually (US $226-1,470) in 2020-2021.
- Cost of education for master degrees goes up to 47 thousand hryvnia ($1,770) per year.
Among Ukrainian universities offering bachelor degrees, costs are as following, Finance.ua reported:
- 6-13 thousand UAH ($226-490): 24 universities
- 13-20 thousand UAH ($490-753): 97
- 20-27 thousand UAH ($753-1,017): 30
- 27-39 thousand UAH ($1,017-1,470): 9
So, the most typical cost of education per year is around 13,000-20,000 hryvnia ($490-753). The most expensive bachelor degree (medical, law, IT) would cost under $1,500 annually.
Obviously, it’s could seem very cheap by your country’s standards. This is why it makes sense to get a degree in Ukraine, especially if it could be used in the country where you live.
Some of the most expensive degrees are in medical and technical universities.
Bear in mind that diligent students are still able to study for free and get stipends in Ukrainian universities. Accommodation is also provided for out of town students.
Cost of contract education in universities is up by 10-20% as compared to the last year, Strana.ua reported. For some specialties, it went up by 100%.
