Many Ukrainians go to work abroad for a few months or years, with experts stating 2 locals are leaving the country to take a job in another country every minute. Most of them return home after the period of hard labour and use the funds to buy an apartment or car. But if we were to believe the results of a recent online poll, 4 out of 10 people would love to leave Ukraine for good.
42% of Ukrainians think about moving abroad to live
Segodnya.ua monitors emigration sentiment for a number of years, and it seems that people are getting happier with staying where they are.
A similar online poll in 2018 showed that 52% of respondents from Ukraine considered moving abroad permanently. In November 2019 the share of such respondents dropped to 42%.
Another poll in the beginning of 2019 that asked exactly the same questions as the November survey had 45% of respondents who answered they would love to leave the country for good and thought about it.
At the start of 2019, 20% of users were adamant they wouldn’t wish to work abroad. By the end of the year, already 22% of users picked that option.
Ukrainians are becoming more optimistic about the country’s future?
It’s possible. Average wages are on the rise both in USD and hryvnia, the minimum salary is being raised consistently. The salaries of Ukrainians are still much lower than in Europe, but it could be only the matter of time for the remuneration to progress to more appropriate levels.
And the fact that finding a job in Europe is relatively easy for Ukrainian citizens help. Local employers have to raise wages to keep the qualified personnel, so the chance to earn more money in nearby countries definitely helps local workers to negotiate better wages.
As the general outlook in the country about its future is getting more optimistic, people’s desire to move elsewhere subsides.
Possibly, in a few years dating Ukrainian girls will stop being a thing because women will be happy to stay where they are? What do you think?
