Most Russians expect good things from 2021. In a recent survey by Levada.ru, 60% of respondents expressed hopes for the better during the coming year.
Russians have the highest hopes for 2021
Levada.ru monitors hopes of Russians for the next year for the last 11 years and the level of 60% of respondents expecting positive changes is a new record.
In addition, further 7% of participants are absolutely convinced that 2021 will be better (60% of respondents “hope” it will be). In addition, 7% of users “think that it won’t be worse”.
Only 9% of users feel that the new year will be worse, while 16% of survey participants believe that there won’t be any changes.
When asked whether they feel hope, anxiety or uncertainly:
- 64% of participants “look forward towards the new year with hope” (as compared with 71% in the poll 12 months ago).
- 25% of users feel anxious about the new year.
- 8% of users feel uncertainty.
When asked whether the new year will be calm or stressful in the political life of the country, 2 out of 3 users lean towards expecting stress (62%). 71% of users are thinking it will be stressful in the economic life of the country as well.
Opinions about stress in family lives of Russians split: 47% vs. 48%. Last year most people expected the year to be calm for their families (65%) while only 28% thought it would be stressful.
The survey was conducted on 18-20 December 2020 among respondents aged over 18 by phone. The model represents the whole population of Russia by age, gender, and residence.
