All in all, Russian women are lovely. They enjoy looking glamorous and elegant, take care of their looks, have curious minds, read a lot, and love intelligent conversations.

Most of all, a Russian woman values a relationship with her special man. It’s a great feeling, to be loved and admired by a beautiful woman.

But some habits of these gorgeous ladies may annoy you.

1. Female groups

In Russia women and men break into two groups when in a large company: Ladies chat to ladies, and guys converse with guys. This happens probably because most people are married or involved, and interactions to people of the opposite gender aren’t encouraged, when you have a significant other.

When you are with a Russian woman and she is in a group of her friends, she probably will chat to ladies and you may feel left out. Remember that it’s a cultural thing; she is used to such segregation in large groups.

2. Expecting you to always pick the bill

In Russia men pay for all expenses when a couple entertains outside their home. This starts with dating and carries on.

If you are used to sharing expenses when you are out, this may feel a bit weird that she never even offers to pick the bill. This is because in Russia a man would be offended if a woman offered to pay, but also because ladies simply enjoy being treated.

Remember, it was the same way until recently in western countries as well.

In Russia, most often, people only go on a few dates where the male is paying, and then the couple starts spending time at each other’s homes, where a woman often cooks for the male. So, Russian guys know that they only need to pay their way at the start and then the roles switch and it’s her turn to look after him. This is why they don’t mind.

3. Wanting flowers. Always.

This may seem like some irrational addiction, the love of flowers that Russian women display.

During the last 20 years flowers in Russia became an essential part of the dating culture. Like a peacock’s tail, this seemingly innocent ritual went totally into overdrive. Today, if you don’t bring flowers to a date, a lady feels like you don’t value or respect her.

She also wants flowers for her birthday, 8 March (Women’s Day), and several times a month, just because you love her. Foreigners joke that Russia has a “flower-based dating culture”, and it’s not far from the truth.

You may find it extremely weird, particularly because cut flowers are so short-lived. Maybe, it’s going become better if you give her living plants with blossoms. She would have to look after them, and this can become cumbersome. You can also act upset if one of your plants not feeling well or died.

This can sort out this strange flower craze. Explain to her that you dislike “dead” (cut) flowers and prefer the living ones. Saying that you think it’s silly won’t work; she will just think you don’t value her or you are cheap and simply trying to save on her.

4. Getting very upset at times

Females are more emotional than males, but Russian women act on their moods even stronger than ladies in your country. This is because they are allowed to do it in Russia; it’s considered appropriate for a woman not even attempt to control her emotions.

Russian ladies can be very loving and warm, which is the part you will likely enjoy, but the downside is that their negative moods could be also quite deep.

In Russia men manage it like this: “Throw a chocolate bar at her and run”, a popular joke holds. This may actually work. Chocolate releases some feel-good hormones, so after consuming sweets, she may feel more at peace.

5. Taking ages to get ready

Again, taking time to dress, do makeup and hair is nothing new. But because Russian women take extreme pride in their appearance (I joke that beauty is the second religion for ladies in Russia), it may take hours to create the immaculate image she wants to present to the world, especially if it’s a special occasion.

Check how long it actually takes her to get ready (don’t ask: She probably will grossly underestimate the time needed) and build it into your schedule. If she tends to run late, then shave off 30-60 minutes off the time of arrival, so she thinks you need to arrive earlier. This way, she will start getting ready in advance and you won’t be late.

Make peace with this harmless habit. She feels great when she looks great, and when she feels great, she is going to be nicer to you and all the people around. Besides, it’s nice to have a hot-looking woman on your arm.
