Sure, things like tickets to a nice holiday resort to spend a weekend or a few days, relaxing, wining and dining, would also make for a lovely surprise. Even a basket of fruit and delicacies would make a great surprise present. A bottle of good perfume or a silk scarf make for a perfect gift as well.

But in general, things don’t have to be expensive.

• One red rose for your lady when you met to go shopping would make her just as happy as a bunch of flowers.
• Your taking a handkerchief to clean her shoes, if she stepped in a pool of dirt on the street, would be seen as more surprising than an expensive gift.
• You can even surprise the lady by saying something in Ukrainian, which is easy to arrange by simply learning any phrase through Google Translate.
• The biggest surprise of all could be your gallantry in terms of not pushing for any intimate contact early on: Not even a kiss or a hug (although you are allowed to kiss the palm of her hand when saying, “Good bye”; it’s seen as gentlemanly).

Yes, such simple things would be seen as surprising by Ukrainian women!

3. Not taking the lady home after the date. (Not to your home, of course! Seeing the girl to her home is the right thing to do. And, of course, no attempts to go up to her apartment! Just bring the lady home, say, “Good night”, and leave courteously. No kissing!)
4. Leaving without arranging the next date. (Best to agree when and where you meet the next time.)
5. Saying anything bad or disrespectful about her country. (Yes, there are problems in her country. There are some problems in your country as well. Be polite and complimentary about her native land; she knows about its problems very well; you don’t need to remind her about them.)
6. Not being a gentleman. (You need to carry her bags, except the handbag; open doors for her, offer your hand to assist exiting from transport, including buses and trams.)
7. Attempting to kiss or hug her before you’ve been out on at least 3 dates. (No friendly kisses on the cheek or hugs are allowed; it’s seen as pushy. Women think you are “only after one thing” if you try to get some affection early on; they see you as someone who is trying to quickly use her body without any intention to have a proper relationship.)
