People who speak in low-pitched voices are more open to casual sex, a recent research found. Scientists use the term ‘sociosexuality’ to describe openness to intimate adventures outside of a relationship.
Does your voice really match your personality?
It’s normal to feel a certain way about someone based solely on the way they talk. As a result, it often leads to long-winded assumptions of one’s personality and even more intimate aspects. But recently ScienceDaily.com reported that there could be some truth in such assumptions.
If you talk in a low pitch, for instance, you’re likely to be sociable, controlling, and less strict about your sexual life. It also doesn’t matter whether you’re a male or a female, when it comes to this link.
Two thousand individuals from various countries submitted their speech samples for the research. Furthermore, in the course of the study participants went through a quiz designed to get an idea about their personal traits. Their voice characteristics and personalities were reviewed to find a pattern.
In addition to questions regarding sexual activity and drive, the subjects rated several qualities, such as:
- neural health
- sociability
- honesty
These secondary traits, however, didn’t reveal the same level of correlation with the voice characteristics as the ones mentioned way before.
Researchers used some special software to get an impartial pitch assessment, which hasn’t been done previously. Unlike before, when scientists conducting the study simply estimated the voice pitches themselves, now a computer can give a precise numerical result. The evaluation of willingness to enter casual relations, however, was done through several quiz questions.
In contrast to previous projects, this experiment attracted an unprecedented size of participants. The resulting information is more reliable as it was based on a larger sample.
How high is your voice?
The members of psychology studies Göttingen University agree that a voice is a powerful factor used to get an initial idea about a person. Even if you don’t see the person, the voice can clearly hint at their age or gender.
What’s more, the mood, condition and emotions can also be relayed through the voice. We go as far as assume how trustworthy or domineering folks are, based on the way they talk.
What interested the team was the rational aspect of these beliefs – basically, whether or not it had scientific explanation. Initially, scientists simply examined personal aspects of some people and estimated whether their voice had anything to do with the character.
In the end, you could say that some personality traits affect the way people talk and, as a result, give them out.
Low voice had long been viewed as appropriate for night-time radio presenters, while high pitch was considered “a morning voice”. Innocence is speaking in a fresh, high pitched voice, while experience and sexuality in a low voice. Surprisingly, it happens to be true.
