If you are dating a woman from Ukraine, you may find it somewhat hard. It seems like things are going alright one week, while the next week feels very different and you start wondering what is going on.

Are all Ukrainian women so hard to date?

Wait, what am I talking about? Ukrainian women are easy to date, some guys may be sure.

Let’s just first define what I means when talking about dating a Ukrainian woman. Because unless these 3 requirements are met, it’s not really a dating relationship. Oops!

1. You are dating a Ukrainian woman when you have her WhatsApp number (her mobile number), email address, and her genuine social media accounts where she posts photos and stories. Most Ukrainian women prefer Instagram to other social networks and they post there from time to time or even daily. Normally you’d get to this point within 2 weeks from first exchanging messages on an online dating site such as com.
2. You are in a genuine online dating relationship if you are talking to her on video for 15 minutes weekly. All Ukrainian women who wish to date a guy from another country have smart phones with Internet access and are able to download WhatsApp and Skype. If she doesn’t wish to chat to you on video, then it’s not genuine, and no reasoning behind that can be valid or true. (You have to chat at least twice for 15 minutes on video before you can put a tick on this point. Chatting on audio without being able to see her talking doesn’t count.) Some girls are worried if her English is good enough to communicate, mention this when inviting her to a video chat: “Please don’t worry that your English is imperfect, I just really want to see you!” This will melt her heart and send her to a hairdresser! Ukrainian women want to look their best when talking to a nice guy on video.
3. You are not paying for each conversation or per minute. If you are paying for communication based on the duration or per letter, it’s not a real dating relationship. (Someone is hired to talk to you. Oops.) You should be able to use different modes of communication (phone, email, social networks) and be able to get hold of her in multiple ways; it should be direct and free for both of you. Sure, you may need to subscribe and pay a fee to a website or app initially, but then you connect directly and talk off the website.

Are these 3 requirements met? Then you are in a genuine online dating relationship with a Ukrainian woman.

Let’s talk about difficulties in dating and how to resolve such situations.

Difficulty #1. Time differences

If you are in Europe, you are in luck: The time difference between yours and Kiev’s time won’t be that great, maybe 1-3 hours. But if you are in the U.S., then it’s 6 am in Kiev, midnight in New York, and 9 pm in California.

You have to think about the most suitable times to connect when you can chat or stream on video.

Solution: List times when you both are usually available and agree to connect during these times on WhatsApp. Better still, make a daily date at a certain hour to connect.

This will ensure smooth communication.

Difficulty #2. Language barrier

Online translators are a great tool. You probably cannot even imagine how hard it was to date internationally when there wasn’t not ability to post a text online and get an instant translation.

The problem here is that the meaning sometimes may get lost or even changed to something completely opposite. This is why it’s always a good idea to check is something sounds a bit off, whether the meaning went through correctly.

Solution: Talk in advance about possible misunderstandings. Tell the Ukrainian woman you are dating that you’ve heard sometimes there could be misunderstandings because of incorrect translations and assure her you mean no disrespect ever and would never offend her on purpose.

Not only this will ensure fewer hiccups in your online dating relationship, but also she will feel more secure in your communication in general.

Difficulty #3: Drop offs in communication

Ghosting is widespread in online dating. It happens when one person just drops off the radar without a warning and the other person is left to wonder what happened.

It happens in long distance online dating relationships as well. Sometimes a Ukrainian woman may feel so offended by something you said (or didn’t say) that she may just go silent, waiting for you to chase after her and apologize.

As a popular joke holds, “Behind every angry woman is a man who has no idea what did he do wrong”.

If you followed tip #2, then you a little bit prepared grounds to avoid such problems.

It would also help to ask directly, if a woman went silent, whether you did or said something she didn’t like and apologize, saying you didn’t mean to be disrespectful.

However, most often drop offs happen not because of misunderstandings and upsets, but simply because we all are so busy.

Maybe you send a short note that she didn’t feel the need to respond to, and you are waiting on her to answer. After a few days of your silence she may decide you ghosted her and get upset, and instead of contacting you (which she decides against because she doesn’t want to appear “desperate”) she, after crying for 2 days, decides to block you in all messengers and social networks.

(I am describing a real-life case here! A couple talked to each other for weeks before it happened.)

Then when you realize that you didn’t hear from her for a few days and decide to send a message, you cannot do it or the text never gets delivered and you wonder what is going on.

Solution: If you started talking and you like her, tell her that you are not one of these people who start a conversation to disappear without a notice and ask her what does she think about such behaviour. She obviously likes you at this point and she will agree with you that it’s not the way to go. She will remember it and you are unlikely to experience drops off in communication.

Difficulty #4. Women’s moods

Some guys probably don’t understand that sometimes even most stable women have moods they can hardly cope with. Female hormones can make a woman feel very vulnerable and on the edge, even if normally she is a resilient and strong person.

Sometimes a woman may feel extremely upset just because it’s that time of the month, and she may be not even aware herself that her behaviour is affected by hormones.

Some husbands learn it the hard way; when a wife suddenly acts like a drama queen, the guy knows what it going on even before she realizes herself it’s this time of the month.

Yes, women should be probably more self-aware of such things and in control, but again, we are talking about chemicals in blood right now, which they have no control over. The person who is more rational can also make a decision that will save the peace in the relationship, and it could be you just as well.

Difficulty #5. Meeting in person

When you are in different countries, meeting in person is more of a challenge than when you are in different neighbourhoods of the same town.

Visits to foreign countries may require entry permits (visas). Ukrainian women have the ability to visit most countries of the European Union and Turkey without visas, so organizing a get-together in a beautiful holiday resort usually not a problem, in normal times.

It is usually a man who pays for the tickets and hotels during a holiday together; simply because Ukrainian women’s wages are really low: Most people in Ukraine earn only around USD 400 per month (that’s the average monthly wage), which may not be enough to pay for one night in a 5-star hotel in Europe. And even if she spent all this money, she still needs to pay the regular living expenses at home.

Some Ukrainian women have valid tourist (visitor) visas to the United States, which makes it possible for her to fly to see you there. For others who don’t have a valid visa at the time it could be simpler to meet in Mexico or Dominican Republic, which are easy to gain an entry to.

Other options that couples use include Bali (Indonesia), Thailand, Fiji, and Egypt. Check the entry requirements for citizens of Ukraine and make a decision that suits you both.
