Casual dating isn’t just frowned upon; it’s viewed as either being promiscuous (which makes a woman low life) or as a male using the female for his entertainment.

The first thing a Russian woman wants to know about a man who expresses interest in her is whether he has serious intentions. It may sound strange as you have just met and how on Earth you are supposed to know what intentions you have in regard to a person you don’t even know!

But Russian women see it in a different way. They believe a guy is either looking for a future partner for life (wife-to-be) or he is not serious, which means he just plans to use her and then dump her.

This view is so strongly imprinted in the Russian dating culture that it’s pointless to fight it. It’s easier to adopt the view that you (as any human being, actually) are ultimately looking for the right person to spend the rest of your life with.

You are supposed to spell it out in some way in the beginning of your connection, for a lady to feel comfortable to continue. Otherwise she is constantly worried about your intentions and whether you are just playing with her (i.e. intend to use her and dump her).

Even though you don’t know at this stage how you feel about the prospects of your connection with this particular lady, feel free to discuss your long-term ideas about life and family, life goals. These are the things that Russian women you are dating crave to hear. You will score highly in their eyes if you bring these subjects up yourself.

In your country dating is probably about going to dinners and various entertainment venues, taking trips away and holidaying together.

In the Russian Federation, it’s about flowers and little presents for a woman. Some foreigners joke that dating in Russia is all about flowers.

• A man who gives the lady flowers frequently is by default a gentleman and a good person, a dream partner.
• A man who doesn’t give flowers is by default an arrogant, disrespectful, egoistic person who will never make a good partner.

Which one you wish to be?

• The more flowers, the better.
• There is no such thing as too much flowers.
• What is she going to do with the flowers is not your concern. Once the bouquet is out of your hands, it’s her concern. She’ll figure it out; she is a Russian woman! (Most florists pack bouquets with a water capsule, so that it doesn’t die for hours, or they could do it on your request.)

It’s firmly believed in Russia that “all women love flowers”. A bunch of pretty blossoms is a desirable gift for a special occasion (preferably accompanied by a little keepsake present such as a relatively inexpensive jewellery item or perfume).

Little presents are also expected during the course of courtship. The woman you are dating probably doesn’t need anything and can purchase anything she wishes herself. Still, it warms up her heart when you give her a little keepsake present and a cute bouquet from time to time. This is considered a proper dating etiquette for a man who has serious intentions about a lady.

She could be approached by two guys, and one of them, let’s say, a handsome, wealthy, and sweet-natured guy, while the other one is grumpy, broke, and less than average looking. But if the first guy never gives her presents and flowers, and the second guy often gives her gifts and bouquets, she would probably go for the second guy because he follows the proper courting etiquette, shows his respect and interest through these “little signs of attention”.

Even if the first guy takes her away to a great trip in a 5-star resort and the second guy just cooks a dinner in his 1-bedroom rented apartment! She still would feel more comfortable with the guy who gives her flowers and presents, and feel that the first guy is “cheap” and “not serious”.

This will definitely separate you from all other online admirers who are trying to get her attention, because you actually took some action and gave her the proof of your “serious intentions”. Other guys just offer sweet talk but don’t do anything!

People tend to favour one method of communication more than others (text, phone calls, video chat, emails, sending photos, etc.).

But if you overdo one channel, it only offers diminishing returns.

• Use different ways and modes on contact. This makes online dating more fun.
• If you texted back and forth, the next time send her a quick video of where you are (it must look awesome!) or a candid photo (cute and funny, not exposed).
• Make sure you talk on video for at least 15 minutes once a week. This is essential to make sure she feels your contact is real. (Ensure the background in the video looks neat and tidy, and so do you.) Even if the lady doesn’t speak perfect English, you can use an online translator simultaneously. • Don’t ever ask for nudes. Women are turned off by this instantly. Even if she continues to communicate with you, she may lose all respect for you and drop off later. (Yes, there are still some guy who ask for photos with no clothes!) Don’t ask for photos in a swimsuit either. If she is impressed by you, she’d want to impress you, too, and ladies are more impressed by your personality, intelligence, and whit than by your muscles. Show her what she wants to see and then she probably will have the desire to show her body.
• Obviously, don’t send nudes either. Contrary to what some guys think, women aren’t dying to see whether your penis is in a working order while in the online dating stage. Most women won’t even consider shirtless photos appropriate. Russian women prefer their men well-dressed, not without clothes, when they are in the online dating stage. Of course, if you have a great body, you can show off. But do it tastefully: A vest allowing to see your biceps and triceps would be more appropriate when you don’t really know each other that close. Let her offer some more exotic photos first, before doing it yourself.

And of course, remember tip #3! Introduce it within 2-3 weeks from the start of your communication and you will see how much stronger your online dating relationship will become.
