Lockdowns and isolation pushed people towards ordering online, and this year Ukrainians spent 5 times more money than prior to pandemics on clothes, Finance.ua reported.
Online spending spree
Buying clothes while sitting at home seems to counter the usual logic, but for Ukrainians it obviously makes sense. In fact, it’s likely that sales of clothing in Ukraine dropped in a whole since March 2020, it’s just the rules and lockdowns kept people at home, so they conducted their usual shopping on the Net.
People who are using online stores believe it’s more convenient because there is time to think about a purchase and compare prices in various shops.
Owners of bricks and mortar stores were forced to start offering goods online. This is what led to the rise of volume of online sales.
Among goods that Ukrainians actively buy on the Internet are also masks, antiseptics, appliances, computers and other gadgets for working remotely.
Purchasing clothes for Ukrainians isn’t just a fashion trend. In colder climates shoes, jackets and coats really wear out and there is the need to update one’s wardrobe.
However, buying groceries is still the largest expense for the vast majority of people in Ukraine. As most Ukrainians own their homes outright or live with family, they don’t spend much on rent of mortgages. Most of their income is spent on food, transportation, and services.
