Wages of Ukrainian women are 20% lower on average than men’s. In the USA the difference is 15%.

Ukrainian women only earn 80% of men’s wages

It’s been discussed many times that the reason why women earn less than men on average is in the choice of vocation. Jobs that women traditionally pick pay less. For instance, teachers in primary and pre-primary schools earn little in all countries and they are nearly 100% females.

But some jobs in the USA that pay well have some of the lowest wages in Ukraine: For instance, Ukrainian doctors and nurses aren’t earning much. In the USA people working in these professions earn substantially higher wages. It could be also the reason why there are many more males among American nurses and doctors as compared to Ukraine.

In the second quarter of 2020 Ukrainian women were earning on average 9,740 hryvnia (US $347) per month, KP.ua reported. Males were getting on average 12,159 hryvnia ($434).

For comparison, in Australia females earn 86% of males’ salaries and in India 75%.

From 1 September 2020 the minimum monthly wage in Ukraine is 5,000 hryvnia. In US dollars it’s only $178. There are people who earn only the minimum wage in Ukraine and they are usually females.
