The number of passengers taking flights in Ukraine grew by 100% since 2015. The statistics was provided by Iurii Lavreniuk, the deputy of the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine.
Flying high
Lavreniuk pointed out that during the period of 2016-2018, the number of passengers transported by air increased by 100%.
In 2015, there were 10 million of passengers transported by air. In 2018 20,5 million of travellers took off in Ukraine. It is expected this indicator will continue to grow.
14 new companies started to fly to Ukrainian destinations. The share of budget airlines in Ukrainian air transportations is about 30%.
10 regional airports started again accepting flights, according to Finance.ua.
Cargo flights are also on the rise. As compared to 2015 cargo flights recorded 40% growth in volume.
According to Lavreniuk, increasing the volume of budget flights will be the primary focus of industry development in forthcoming years, both in international and domestic sectors.
Worldwide, the number of international arrivals went up by 4% in the first half of 2019 and reached 671 million, Finance.ua reported.
Ukrainians enjoy visa-free travel to countries of the European Union since June 2017. Citizens of the majority of developed countries are able to visit Ukraine without the need to apply for a visa.
