The absolute majority of Ukrainians (67%) spend holidays in Ukraine and only a third of them (33%) take trips abroad, a recent survey revealed.
2 in 3 Ukrainians don’t travel abroad for vacations
Finance.ua conveyed the results of a recent survey outlining where and how Ukrainians take holidays. The survey was conducted by Picodi.com.
Ukrainians who prefer to holiday at home usually go to Azov Sea coast or to the local top spot for seaside vacations, Odessa.
The top five destinations also includes Lviv, Kharkiv, and Transcarpathian recreational centers.
Those who spend their leave abroad often chose Egypt, Poland, Turkey, Montenegro, and Greece.
Budget travelers
Only 12% of Ukrainians do not try to save on holidays. The majority of people prefer to travel on budget by getting various deals, booking early and taking promo offers.

Many Ukrainians look for free sightseeing (21%), choose less popular and low-cost destinations (17%) or travel during off-season (15%).
Most Ukrainians prefer to travel to new places (77%), and only 23% of respondents return to favorite destinations.
A half of traveling Ukrainians prefer coastal resorts. 34% of Ukrainian travelers pick places for sightseeing and 16% of respondents said they choose holidays where they can be actively doing something.
What Ukrainians do on holidays
While on holidays, only 9% of Ukrainian citizens rent a car, 14% hire a taxi, and 77% of people use public transport. The number of people who hitchhike is obviously negligible as they didn’t make even 1% of answers.
As for the food, 46% of respondents who travel abroad prefer local restaurants and national cuisine, strive to learn the culture and customs of the new places they visit.
17% of respondents choose all-inclusive packages and dining at hotels. Such packages are attractive for budget-conscious travelers because they know exactly how much it would cost them.
Turkey is famous for offering all-inclusive packages, which are very popular among Ukrainians and Russians alike.
Surprisingly, 60% of respondents expressed a wish to work while holidaying abroad.

Countries where people spend similar amounts on their vacations are Romania, Mexico and Argentina.
The survey was carried out in April-May 2019 among 22,073 respondents from Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa and Australia. The average exchange rate for May 2019 was used for currency conversion.
