In 2021 Ukrainian teachers are getting a sizable rise by 26%, but they still will be earning only USD 330-470 per month. School and college teachers in Ukraine are paid by the government.
Ukrainian teachers’ monthly earnings to reach USD 330-470
Salaries of employees in Ukraine are some of the lowest in Europe. Teachers are one of the categories earning less than others.
In 2021, there is a plan to raise salaries of teachers by 26%, Finance.ua reported.
After the increase, school and college teachers would get an increase in monthly salaries:
- Junior teachers without experience: 9,511 hryvnia (USD 335), a rise from 7,580 hryvnia (USD 267).
- Teachers of the highest category: 13,400 hryvnia (USD 470), a rise from 10,600 hryvnia (USD 373).
In total, Ukraine’s government will spend 174 billion hryvnia on education (USD 6.14 billion), 21.2 billion hryvnia on wages of educators ($750 million).
Many educators work 1,5 shifts to earn enough to feed the family. They take extra hours, which is easy enough: There are not enough teachers, because of low wages.
Most educators in Ukraine are females. On average, Ukrainian women are paid 25-28% lower salaries than men, during the last decade. It is not only that females work in industries with lower remuneration, but there is also a difference between salaries of workers with the same qualifications, where males tend to get higher pay checks.
In 2020, wages of educators should reach 2.5 times of the official sustenance level. In 2022 the pay checks should be 3.5 times higher and 4 times higher than the sustenance level in 2023.
