According to a recent survey, people in Russia think that old age begins at 62. Women think that a person can be considered old at 63, while men feel that 60 is the age.
Old age begins at 60-63
A survey by WCIOM.ru questioned Russian respondents about their perceptions in regard to age. Apparently, locals view the age of 60-63 as the time when a person becomes old: Men think it happens at 60, while women on average gave the number of 63 years old.
There are different views among respondents, with the largest percentage picking a number within 60-64 bracket (21%). 10% of respondents feel it’s around 65-69, while 11% pointed to 70-74 bracket.
However, there are plenty of people who think that 55-59 marks the advent of the old age (19%), and whopping 17% of participants feel that 50-54 is already the time one should be looked at as an elder.
Some respondents even believe that 40-49 is the time (5%).
On average, Russian males feel they will live until 74, while females think they will make it to 81. When asked how long would they be able to live if all the conditions were optimal, women on average picked the age of 86, males pointed to 84.
71% of respondents feel that poverty is the biggest problem that older people face in Russia, as compare to 44% of participants who named poor health and illnesses as one of major problems. 19% of users feel that older people may feel not needed in the society, while further 17% pointed to the problem of loneliness many older people face.
When asked whether older people in Russia are respected, most Russians feel that they are (52%). However, 43% of users feel the opposite way.
