A chief accountant in Kislovodsk by Caucasus mountains may be earning only 15,000 rubles per month (USD 200) and consider her wages “average for the location”, but there are locations with much higher average earnings within Russia.
Where in Russia are the highest wages?
If you expected Moscow to be the place with the highest salaries, it’s not the case.
- Remote Chukotka is the region with the largest average pay check: 116,400 rubles (USD 1,565) per month.
- Workers in Yamalo-Nenetsky Okrug earn 110,000 rubles per month (USD 1,479).
- Murmansk region salaries are on the level of 96,200 rubles ($1,293).
Moscow is in the top-5 with average salaries of 95,900 rubles ($1,289), Lenta.ru reported.
The average wage in Russia in September 2020 was 49,300 rubles ($663). It’s 3.3% higher than in August 2020.
All in all, wages in Russia went up by 6% in a year, Fontanka.ru reported. Unemployment in the country was on the level of 6.3% in October 2020.
During the pandemics, expenses of locals went up by 20% and income dropped by 11%, according to a recent announcement by the Russian president.
The exchange rate between Russian ruble and US Dollar and euro keeps going up, making Russian wages in USD smaller. At the start of December 1 US Dollar was worth 74 Russian rubles.
