The pandemics influenced earnings of Ukrainian freelancers in a slightly negative way. About 7% more respondents reported a drop in earnings than a rise, while 2 out of 3 freelancers didn’t notice any difference. Half of respondents said there was less work available online.
Freelancers in quarantine
You’d think that if anyone, it would be freelancers who are immune to pandemics, since they are working online remotely anyway.
But this is not the case, apparently, Finance.ua reported based on a recent survey by AIN.UA.
Hourly rates remained the same for nearly 66% of online workers, while 20.4% reported a drop. 13.1% of respondents said they started to earn more.
At the same time, there is less work available, 48.2% of respondents reported. However, 30.7% of survey participants didn’t notice any drop in orders or contracts for work.
Programming is the leading trade among remotely self-employed: 36% of respondents are involved in this area. The lowest pay is in system administration and copywriting.
137 participants answered questions about their jobs and the influence of the pandemics on the industry.
- For 3 out of 4 participants it’s their main job.
- 5% of participants are doing freelance work on a temporary basis.
Most respondents are employed by companies in the USA or locally in Ukraine, each including about 30% of the total market share, as per this survey.
17.5% of respondents work remotely for companies based in Europe.
Ukraine is in top-5 countries by the speed of growth of IT industry. Freelancing is getting more and more popular among Ukrainians.
