The goal of 10,000 hryvnia monthly wages promoted by the Ukrainian government no longer seems unachievable, with salaries crashing the psychological barrier of 9,000 hryvnia (USD 321) in September 2018, as announced by the official government statistics service Ukrstat.
Ukrstat: September wages in Ukraine exceeded 9,000 hryvnia
Average monthly wages have already achieved the level of over USD 323 earlier this year, but they were lower than 9,000 in hryvnia at the time (8,480 UAH). Now the exchange rate went up and although the average salary broke the psychological barrier of 9,000 hryvnia, it’s still the same amount in USD.
- Country-wide, September wages achieved 9,042 hryvnia ($321), Ukrstat reported.
- The highest salaries remain in the sector of air transportation, with pilots and personnel earning on average over 40,000 UAH per month ($1,440).
- The second highest pay checks are in the industry of financial services and insurance: nearly 16,000 hryvnia ($570).
- Earnings of employees in telecommunications and IT sector come close third: 14,307 UAH ($510).
Few industries pay salaries exceeding 10,000 UAH per month
In addition to the industries mentioned above, average pay checks exceed 10,000 UAH ($360) in the following sectors:
- Water transport: 10,524 ($375)
- Warehousing and supporting transportation: 11,291 ($403)

Lowest salaries in Ukraine in UAH (USD)
- The lowest level of remuneration is in postal services: under 5,000 ($180).
- Medical workers (human health) also earn very little: 5,774 ($206).
- Educators are slightly better of: 7,171 ($256).
- Hospitality workers earn on average only 6 thousand hryvnia ($214)

Even with these low earnings, people in Ukraine are owed a lot of money by employers in delayed wages. Some employees get paid in November for their work in August-September.
