1 in 10 people in Ukraine is officially unemployed, according to ZN.ua.
Official unemployment rate in Ukraine dropped below 10%
In absolute numbers, 1.7 million Ukrainians are currently unemployed while there are 16 million citizens who are regarded as working-age population aged 15 to 70.
Officially, the unemployment rate in the largest country of Europe is declining. The rate is 9.7% on the results of the 1st quarter of 2018 compared to 9.9% in the last quarter of 2017. To compare, the number stood at 10.5% in the first 3 months of 2017.
Gender and location play a role: 9.1% of women don’t have a job, which is below the average number. Only 9.1% of people living in big cities apply for unemployment benefits.
The data had been collected by the Ukrainian State Statistics Service Ukrstat.gov.au and evaluated according to the standards of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
However, not all people who don’t work apply for the official unemployment status. If we look at employment status, 55.9% of working age Ukrainians are employed. It’s 0.7% higher than the year before.
The fact that in Ukraine pension age starts from 55 for women and 60 for men complicated calculations by international standards. In fact, women 55-70 are viewed as potential employees by international organizations, while they are eligible for pension by age in Ukraine.
The same is applicable to men, who are getting the status of a pensioner at 60.
Earlier we reported that Russia is considering a draft legislation that will see the pension age raised to 63 years for females and 65 for males, while currently it’s the same (55 and 60). In the Russian Federation, it’s above the average life expectancy for males in over 60 regions. The law is due to pass the final voting in the Russian parliament after 1 September 2018 and there is close to 100% probability it will be accepted.
