Let’s find out how much people earn in various republics of the former Soviet Union. Where do workers get the highest wages?
Wages in countries of the former USSR in 2019
Soviet Union included 15 national republics, Russia being the largest. (In fact, Russia is the largest country by its territory in the world — nearly double the size of the USA.)
The USSR dissolved peacefully in 1991, which was 28 years ago.
Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia — countries of the Baltic Sea region — are now members of the European Union, and people there earn much higher wages as compared to other former Soviet Republics. We won’t be talking about these countries in this review.
What about other republics?
In the second quarter of 2019, these were the values of monthly salaries.
- The highest earnings are in Russia, where the average monthly salary reached USD 750 in the second quarter of 2019
- Belarus has the second highest salaries: $515
- Kazakhstan‘s workers earn on average $490 per month
- Moldova‘s wages are $405 monthly
- Ukraine is #5 on this list: $395
- Armenia: $375
- Azerbaijan: $350
- Uzbekistan: $285
- Kyrgyzstan: $240
- Tajikistan: $140
Turkmenistan and Georgia are missing on this list, Finance.ua didn’t have the numbers for them.
