Over a million of migrants live and work in Poland. Ukrainians outnumber other nations in this regard: Nearly 900,000 of migrants are from Ukraine.
9 in 10 working migrants in Poland are from Ukraine
The official numbers on the number of people from other countries who work in Poland were announced by the deputy chief of the department of the economic analysis of the Poland’s National Bank Jacek Kotlovsky.
The migrant assist pressures in labour market, the official reported. There are also migrants from other nearby countries such as Belarus.
The Polish National Bank reviewed the time of stay in the country by migrant on average. Workers from Belarus or Ukraine usually stay and work for about 7 months.
How the number of working migrants was calculated?
The experts reviewed the following indicators:
- The number of working visas granted;
- “Polish cards” — documents given to foreign citizens with Polish roots;
- Permits to live in Poland permanently or temporarily;
- Reports from employers on foreign workers;
- The total number of official ensured foreigners for work cover.
Since Ukrainians are able to travel to Europe without entry visas, the number of people who migrate to earn higher wages went up. A lot of people are employed without proper documentation and permits, but most often they go to other European countries where wages are higher.
At the same time, Poland is just around the corner and with nearly 900 thousand Ukrainian workers employed officially, it’s probably not that hard for someone to find a place to stay if they decided to get a seasonal job for a few months.
