A new study by Edith Cowan University (ECU) has shown that if you follow a diet based on fruit and vegetables, you can get rid of a lot of stress.

Scientists have studied the relationship between consumption of fruit, vegetables, and stress indicators. About 8,600 Australians between the ages of 25 and 91 took part in the study.

When scientists reviewed the scores, they discovered that people who consumed about 500 grams of vegetables and fruits daily had 10% lower stress levels than those who ate 230 grams or less.

The World Health Organization has established that every day the consumption of fruit and vegetables should be not less than 400 grams.

Lead researcher Simone Radavelli-Bagatini, PhD, from the ECU Institute for Nutrition Research, said the study points out towards the link between mental well-being and a diet rich in vegies and fruit.

“Our experts have found that those people who lead such a healthy lifestyle, get into stressful situations much less often than those who do not include such healthy foods in the diet. This is proof that the key role goes to the right diet, and then there will be mental well-being in the near future.”
