A recent survey revealed that 7% of Russians still believe that there is no need for a biological father to interrupt in his kids’ life if a woman remarried.
Some people in Russia still think that fathers don’t need to see kids if a woman remarried
The majority of respondents (82%) believe the father should be involved in the kids’ life even if the mother has remarried. But even though only 7% of participants in a recent WCIOM survey took the view that biological dads should stay away (but pay the child support), it’s a lot of people in a whole country.
It used to be in western countries the same way that dads weren’t involved much in life of their kids but only had to go to work and provide for the family, while mothers were responsible for child rearing and care.
Many Russian women still believe in this traditional family model when the father’s most important input in children’s life is providing means. They are sometimes surprised to find out that male parents from America, Australia, or Europe are caring for their children as much or even more than mothers after a divorce.
In Russia, in the majority of cases kids still stay with the mother, and dads may be even completely absent from kids lives. This recent survey once again demonstrated there is a view in the society that a father’s role is just to pay the child support after a divorce.
The views are changing, but possibly not fast enough.
