The number of visits abroad by Ukrainians increased in 2018 by 6% as compared with the previous year, the country’s border control reported.

Ukrainians embrace the opportunity to travel abroad

Since June 2017 Ukrainians are able to enter the countries of European Union as tourists without a visa. But it is only in 2018 that the value of this opportunity became truly visible, with the border control service reporting 6% increase in foreign visits by locals.

Budget airlines offering cheap flights to Europe increased their passenger turnover by 29%, Segodnya reported.

The most visited countries

Poland, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, Belarus, Slovakia and Egypt remain the most popular places for a trip among citizens of Ukraine. Turkey is also the place that locals choose for holidays or business often.

Trips to all major European states are on the increase.

• Germany scored 165,000 arrivals by citizens of Ukraine.

• Denmark: 30,000
• Austria: 25,000
• Cyprus: 25,000
• Latvia: 20,000
• Bulgaria: 15,000
• Czech Republic: 15,000
• Estonia: 10,000
• Switzerland: 10,000

At the same time, the number of locals who visited the USA and Israel are on the level of the previous year (2017).

On the whole, Ukrainians are able to enter over 100 countries without a visa or get an entrance permit on arrival.

Ukraine’s passport is now stronger than Russian.
