Because of the situation with jobs around quarantine, 9% of respondents started to think about going to another country to work, a recent poll revealed. Another finding confirms the trend: The official number of people who are unemployed in Ukraine went up by 76% as compared with the same month of the last year.
76% hike in unemployment in Ukraine
According to Finance.ua, there were 516 thousand of people who were officially unemployed on 12 June 2020. It’s 223 thousand more than on the same date last year.
The officials link it to pandemics and drop in the demand by employers, thus the unprecedented jump in the number of unemployed. Last year on 12 June there were only 293 thousand people without jobs.
Twice as many people applied to the government services seeking support for unemployment as in 2019. From 12 March to 12 June 2020 about 285,000 people applied for unemployment benefits. In Ukraine, the service also assists in finding new jobs by offering vacancies for people who cannot find work themselves.
At the same time, the number of vacancies that the service collected dropped by 40% as compared to 2019. Only 53,000 vacancies were available for those who needed a job, in the listing of the service on 12 June.
In total, for 3 months employers listed with the government’s employment service over 160 vacancies. It’s half of what it was last year.
There is still demand for workers at manufacturing plants, service personnel, as well as managers and specialists. IT specialists remained highly relevant, especially because many companies started to change to online setups and needed to provide connectivity for their personnel.
