Ukraine announced a plan to offer citizens “Court in a smartphone”, where people can participate in legal hearings via mobile devices.
Court in a smartphone: Attending hearings from anywhere
Zoom sessions via mobile devices are now a usual feature of TV shows where audiences attend from their homes and presenters see their reactions on giant TV screens in the studio.
Now in Ukraine a court attendance is planned to work the same way, KP.ua reported.
The Ukrainian government has hopes that the novelty will allow to minimize corruption during proceedings.
Another plan for Ukrainian courts is to utilize a jury in processing crimes that carry lifetime sentencing. There is also a proposal to drop the minimum age of a jury member from 30 to 25 years.
Cases that involve violations of intellectual property should also become matters for a special IP court.
The changes to the court system are multifaceted and should be carefully thought through, Ukrainian president pointed out.
The changes are no doubt connected with the latest health scare that made the whole world adjust. But who knows, the consequences it brought about may be just what the progress ordered.
