The ladies were able to give up to 3 answers and the ones that scored over the threshold of 2% were listed in the order of popularity.

• The top quality that females of Russia want to see in a man is honesty. 22% of ladies mentioned it. Looks like it’s hard for girls in Russia to find an honest guy who tells the truth!
• The second quality may sound a bit strange: reliable joined with “will defend me” (a defender). The combined score is 19%, but it’s not quite clear how much each of the options scored. Possibly, “reliable” would be better off combined with #3 characteristic, “responsible”, which scored 16% in the poll.

In general, Russian language is rich on adjectives and they have a slight but precise difference in the meaning. Reliable means someone I can rely on, and from this point of view a defender is someone a lady can rely on in a problematic situation. Females in Russia still feel they need protection of a male who should shield her from various problems and troubles, as the laws and police are often ineffective.

Feeling protected also includes the situation where a mother isn’t worried about what her kids are going to eat today. Instability and insecurity are two major factors driving women to seek partners abroad, along with the known demographic deficit of males.
