Ukrainian women love Valentine’s Day, or, how they call it there, ‘The Day of All Lovers’.

Naturally, single people fear it, but ladies in new relationships are looking forward to the first test of a man’s love. Absolutely! This very first Valentine’s Day you get to experience together will show her how much you treasure her. Your date is going to be virtual, since you are so far away from each other, but it will be a date nevertheless.

In love on Valentine’s Day

You may feel it’s too early to give your heart to one lady, but it doesn’t have to be ‘my heart is only for you’ notice. Of course, if this is the woman of your dreams and you really want to get her, there is no better occasion to ask, ‘Will you be my Valentine?’

If this is the woman of your dreams, she want the man who thinks she is the lady of his dreams as well! Show it to her, and definitely, if this is the case, use this special occasion that Valentine’s Day provides.

There is a proverb in Ukraine, ‘It’s not the gift that counts, it’s the attention’. Send her a selfie of yourself with a bunch of red roses and a note, ‘I have this delivery for you, I just need the address and I won’t be long’, and this could be the cutest date request ever!

I know ladies and you wish to find a serious relationship, but it doesn’t mean that dating should not be fun! It’s much more fun to enjoy a light-hearted joke, rather than turning it into an interview in writing.

So many Valentine’s

It’s perfectly OK to not be able to choose from so many beautiful women at this stage. Girls also not always are ready to choose quickly, they are not very experienced in it, and they wish to learn more about a man before making a choice. So, you and her could be on the same page.

1. The girl will not commit to you first, before your committing to her. This is not customary in Eastern Europe. She needs an elaborate display of loyalty and devotion. This is why in their tradition, the man is going strongly from the start as if he were to ‘throw all in’ to get the girl. It’s called the ‘hunter-prey’ dating scheme. It used to be practiced in western countries as well in the last century, but in Ukraine this is still the way men court women, and Ukrainian girls are accustomed to it. This is how they know the man is ‘serious’ about her — if he displays his devotion. You don’t have to do it, but until you do, she is unsure you are really interested in her. She is so ‘regular’ (beautiful women are a dime a dozen in Ukraine) and you are so amazing! Any guy who wants to get married is already a prince on a white horse for many a girl.
2. She is going to just respond to your advances at first, but not put any input herself. Her input is the fact she is talking to you. If she didn’t like you, she would just ignore your messages (not respond at all). She is just waiting for ‘all in’ courtship that will show her you are really into her (see p.1 above).
3. If she doesn’t get a red rose on Valentine’s Day, you are out of the competition. Sorry to tell you that but it’s the truth. Women in Ukraine have a fragile self-esteem due to the way men treat them (and yes, the hunter-prey courtship style is not ideal, we know that, but Ukrainian women don’t!) and this is why they get offended easily for little reasons. Any sign of ‘disrespect’ or ‘lack of attention’ makes women in Ukraine doubt themselves (remember, she thinks you are amazing and she is just a regular girl — yes, this is what she wants, but she is afraid to become too much invested emotionally and then crash), so she tries to protect her heart, unconsciously, of course, and simply destroys the connection first before she can get her hopes up just to be let down later. Not logical, I agree, but when did you see people acting logically in love? So, my point: You need to give the woman a red rose if you want to stay in the running. Just give her the rose! It’s all she wants. Many other guys won’t do it, so you are going to stand out! Turn it to your advantage.

Flower delivery service could be an option, if you had her address. But it may be too late at this point in time, to order a real physical flower delivery.

But it’s not too late to create something special — which includes the proverbial red rose — for her alone (yes, if you wish to impress several ladies, each of them should get an individual message tailored specially for her).

Love is not logical. If anything, love is illogical. These tips will help!

Today the most unusual gift for your Ukrainian woman could be a funny video where you are making a fool of yourself, in Valentine’s Day style.

• You may dance a funny dance (like ‘flossing’ or twerk) with the most serious face and end it with a red rose in your mouth on one knee, asking, ‘Will you be my Valentine?’ or just singing from the top of your lungs, ‘Tatiana, you are the most beautiful woman in my heart’ or anything else you find sufficient to make her laugh hysterically for half an hour. You can either do it on Skype live (not recommended) or record a video and send it to her (recommended — she would definitely want to see it twenty times and maybe show to her friends).

Courtship is all about a man making an idiot of himself! In a way, submitting to a woman. In turn, she submits to him.

That’s the old, traditional style, which is, by the way, tons faster than casually dating for years, then living together for half a decade, and then deciding you no longer like each other and splitting (or maybe you are one of the lucky couples that get married at the end of this process — not guaranteed).

Isn’t it much easier with the hunter-prey style dating when everything is in the clear in 2 weeks? You are either an item and you can get married now, or you split and look for someone else. The intensity of the hunter-prey dating allows to skip years in a relationship, to be invested and committed.

But we digressed!

With your Valentine, think how you can impress her with your actions. Thus the format of a video would be excellent to demonstrate it to your lovely Ukrainian woman.

• You can climb a mountain for her and take a video with a red rose on the top — in her name. Panoramic videos on top of a mountain are impressive. Make sure you say in your video, ‘Wish you were here, [insert her name here].’
• Or you can get on the roof of a tall building and do the same.
• Make a short video of you picking a bunch of red roses in a flower shop. Think of some funny jokes to insert — the goal is to make her laugh! Go around and make comments about bouquets — speak clearly and caption it, to ensure she understands your words. Or just make funny faces. Pick the biggest bunch at the end and say, ‘This is not enough to express my feelings for you, but that’s the best they have in this shop’ — or think of your own lines.
• Climb the stairs of the tallest building in your town and do a time-lapse video of the climb. Things like that impress women!
• Invite her for a session on Skype (make sure it’s still 14 February in her location, it may be your morning), cook a sumptuous dinner for 2 and set a gorgeous table decorated with candles and flowers, and tell her you wish she were there with you for real, but she is always there in your heart… Wow! Tears of joy guaranteed.

All of those have to include a red rose (or a bunch of them) in the script.

If your video making skills are really bad (read some tips here, they may help), then just do a series of photos and arrange them in a sequence, there are tons of apps in the app shop that make videos out of still images.

Think. Be creative.

It’s easier to just buy a bunch of red roses and book a dinner, I know… But remember, it’s the attention that counts for Ukrainian women!
