41% of Russians said they weren’t scared about getting infected with virus, a recent Levada survey revealed.
4 out of 10 Russians aren’t scared of infection
The global pandemic brought a lot of fears, but 41% of people in Russia don’t feel scared about it, a recent survey by Levada discovered.
The number of such respondents dropped from 68% in February and 54% in March this year, however, it’s still impressive how many Russians feel calm about it.
At the same time, 56% of respondents reported in April they are worried about getting infection, up from 44% in March (30% in February).
The survey was conducted on 24-27 April 2020.
How the pandemic affected Russians
- 71% had to give up mass events.
- 56% had to cancel planned visits to other countries or trips within Russia.
- 50% stopped using public transport.
- 45% purchased medical face masks; the same share of respondents had to stay at home rather than go to work or an educational institution.
- 27% purchased food for weeks in advance.
- 11% sought to get tested for coronavirus.
At the same time, 10% of respondents said they didn’t have any of the above. Possibly, these were respondents in remote regions, since the survey questions respondents in the whole of Russia. Some people routinely work from home, while pensioners in remote villages don’t use public transport or go to mass events.
