I actually have a few photos in a suit, let’s see what will happen. I know it’s a tactic, but since I never wear suits it will be completely inaccrute when they meet me in real life, however I will take your advice to heart.

Russians don’t smile. Why? Just google “why Russians don’t smile”, you’ll get plenty of explanations.
In the Russian language there is a saying, “Smiling without a reason is the sign of a fool”. People in Russia don’t smile, just like Americans smile. Russians just as much are bewildered by ever smiling Americans! Especially when Americans visit some historically sensitive sight like the place where Tsar’s family was murderedand they stand for a group photo and smile — this shock Russians.
I would be appalled by smiling Americans at the place where the Tsar’s family was murdered, too. I was recently at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., and was saddened to see young people taking photos of each other in front of the statue of Lincoln while grinning and making “V” signs. Let’s try this one: You are absolutely right!
It’s a cultural thing, I met and worked with many Russians in Antalya, unfortunately I never got a chance to fully master the language, I can greet people in Russian but that’s it. I am currently living abroad for years and my interactions with Russians is poor. Don’t project your own cultural values on Russian women, if you want to understand them, learn the language. Elena already gave you a hint.
The idea to make suit-photo is a really good one but I think not every woman would appreciate it, some of them may be just scared. Maybe it would be better if there are 2 avatar “options”? Kinda “official” and “casual”? Both of good quality, of course. And… What if she will say something like “what do you think about going to the theater/restaurant/etc. tonight?” and “by the way, I have one dress which fits that your suit, you know, from avatar”? 😀 And I didn’t understand about the video. I don’t think that appearance is the main thing about the man, I mean I really usually look for intelligence and personality. But first impression still matters. It is probably not so crucial when you meet in person and have time to chat and get some further impression. But in case of dating sites there will not be a second chance. I also think that your profile photo makes the first impression. It is really sad but nowadays your personal traits don’t really matter for a women if you don’t look good. That’s why i can suggest you to post the best photo you have( of course you have to look the same in life or otherwise you can dissapoint your partner
