Orthodox Christmas is on 7 January, which is today. Russian, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus celebrate it as a public holiday. The countries of the former USSR celebrate it nearly 2 weeks later.
About Orthodox Christmas
This holiday in countries of the former USSR has a purely religious meaning, with all the gifts and presents exchanged a week before, on the New Year’s Eve.
There are certain dishes that are traditional for this day, as well as certain rituals, like singing Christmas carols, which is more typical for Ukraine and Belarus than Russia.
If you have forgotten about this special date, there is still time to extend your holiday greetings to ladies!
They will be happy to share the joy of this special day with you.
