According to a recent poll, half of Russians support the concept of life after death.
Survey: Spiritual beliefs of Russians
Back in 1991, 61% of Russians thought that most likely or certainly there was no life after death. Only 39% of respondents believed there would be life after death.
Comes 2020 and things changed. 53% of respondents to a recent survey by Levada expressed support for the concept of life after death, they either believe in it or think it’s most likely. 47% of respondents don’t believe in it.
57% of Russian respondents to 2020 survey believe in the kingdom of Heaven, while 43% don’t. In 1991, 64% of people didn’t believe it in, while only 36% supported the idea of Heaven.
Among the survey respondents 63% of participants stated being Orthodox Christians and 7% were Muslims. 26% of users said they don’t consider themselves believers in any religion. Other religions such as Catholicism, Protestantism, and Judaism scored less than 1% of adepts each, as represented in the survey.
Only 19% of non-religious people believe in life after death, while among Orthodox Christians the share of support for this idea reached 65% among those who attend the church regularly.
However, only 5% of respondents attend church once a week or more often. 9% visit church once or twice a month. 21% of users visit church several times a year and 17% of participants once or twice annually. 19% visit church less than once a year and 28% of people never go to church.
Traditionally, Russian women are more religions than men, although this survey didn’t provide a breakdown by gender.
