In the first 7 months of 2019, 3.6 thousand Ukrainians obtained visas allowing to move to the United States permanently, UNIAN reported. If the trend remains stable, by the end of 2019 over 6 thousand people will be ready to immigrate to America.
Who is moving to the USA from Ukraine?
According to the data released by the government’s migration service, the visas were granted to 2009 grownups of working age plus 232 pensioners, as well as 1372 children.
At the same time, 841 people from foreign countries were granted citizenship of Ukraine.
- For the whole year of 2018, there were 3358 people who got migration visas to the United States of America.
- In 2014, 1,368 Ukrainian citizens obtained immigration visas to America.
The number of prospective immigrants from Ukraine to the States keeps growing.
According to Immigrant.today, over 1 million people living in the USA had Ukrainian roots in 2016.
- 59% of them were migrants in the first generation.
- The seconds generation (kids of immigrants from Ukraine) comprised 21% of this group, while 29% were already the grandkids.
Starting from 2005, the largest share of immigration visas are granted to family members of American citizens, which includes kids, parents, spouses and fiancées.
The majority of people with Ukrainian background live in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, and California.
Over 60% of Ukrainians living in America speak English at home. This situation is typical for families where the wife is from Ukraine and the husband is an American. For the kids born in such marriages English will be their first language. Even the kids who migrated with mothers soon prefer to converse in English, since this is the language they use at school. Normally it only takes about 6 months for kids to start speaking fluently in English.
