1st September has always been an important day in post-Soviet countries. A new academic year begins for the vast majority of schoolchildren and their teachers, and Ukraine is not an exception.
So, what will be different for Ukrainian kids from 1 September 2019?
Changes in the system of education
Finance.ua reported on the most prominent changes that become effective this year.
- From 1 September 2019, it’s no longer compulsory to wear school uniform. This is the first time in the modern history that Ukrainian kids will be able to wear whatever they feel comfortable with.
- Students can opt for home studies as well as attend a full-time school.
- Sports and music lessons attended as extracurricular activities will get credits in the school courses total score.
- Financial education lessons will be introduced in Grades 10-11.
- Parents will definitely benefit from new electronic student tickets, which will allow to track the movement of a child in the city. Besides, children would be able to pay for public transportation or subway by simply presenting this ticket.
- Kids in grades 1-4 have to wear vests with reflective stripes in the dark.
- Educational institutions can no longer demand from applicants to pass a test or an interview prior to admission. All schools are required to accept kids that apply regardless of the school’s specialization or professional orientation.
- Along with that, teachers are no longer permitted to announce student’s scores or marks in front of the entire class.
- Kids will be able to design an individual schedule to study in the way they and their parents find suitable.
- Kiev’s schools will start offering buffet-style meals and a new assortment of dishes. The plan is to keep the prices for meals on the same level without hikes.
Ukraine is moving ahead offering modern-style convenience in education on all levels. The changes are aimed to give more freedom and flexibility to the system of education for kids.
