VKontakte remains the most popular social network in Russia in 2020, with 67% of respondents in a recent survey confirming their loyalty to the locally geared setup.

Which networks do Russians like to use?

A recent survey by Levada revealed preferences of Russians in social networks in its recent media monitoring review. The rating is updated annually.

1. VKontakte: 67%
2. YouTube: 45%
3. Odnoklassniki: 45%
4. Instagram: 41%
5. Facebook: 14%
6. My World (by Mail.ru): 7%
7. Tik Tok: 7%

VKontakte seems to have stagnated in gaining new users, although the number of people still logging in is the highest among all the brands in the rating (67%).

YouTube‘s popularity also seems to have dropped slightly from 47% in March 2019 to 45% in 2020, although this difference is within the statistical error.

Odnoklassniki, which used to be more popular than VK keeps losing popularity for the fifth year in a row.

The newcomer Tik Tok managed to attract 7% of all users, although its audience is mostly teenagers and young adults.

Instagram made the most substantial gains of all, with 41% of respondents having accounts there. Only 36% of Russians used it last year.

Facebook has remained on the same level for the last 3 years, with the market share of 14%. BKontankte is an analogue of Facebook, this is why world’s most popular social network isn’t that prominent in Russia.

It would interesting to find out how frequently people login to a certain network and the length of session.

Twitter isn’t on the list, for some reason, while unimportant “My world” by Mail.ru is. Twitter is quite popular in Russia, especially as a PR tool for business and media.
