Young Russians love watching videos more than TV programs. A recent poll by WCIOM.ru revealed that 9 out of 10 respondents under the age of 35 use YouTube to watch videos.
Videos instead of TV
In total, 58% of respondents to the poll are using YouTube, but the numbers strongly vary by age.
- In the age group 60+ only 1 in 4 is a YouTube user, while among the people under 35, it is 9 out of 10.
- In the group 35-44 one respondent in four is a fan, while in the cluster of 45-59-year-olds it is only one in two.
The most popular type of YouTube content belongs to the category of music, movies, culture, and arts: 30% of users who use the service access such channels.
Humour attracts 23% of users, while issues of family and raising kids have 16% of devotees. Sport and fitness, politics, technology and IT, travel, educational short movies and things that showcase things in the industry of beauty and health are accessed by 10-14% of YouTube customers.
Most users limit their engagement by watching the content created by other people (53%), with only 2% of all respondents uploading their own films.
- 13% “Like” other people’s films.
- 12% subscribe to the favourite channels.
- 7% “Share” the channels and films they like with friends.
- 6% leave comments.
The largest number of active users are among 25-34-year-olds, where 69% of people do something else than just watching. It is slightly lower in the group 18-24: 63%. Only 16% are active participants among people aged 60+.
