The theme of Russian brides (females who seek foreign men for relationships and marriage) is well-researched and you can discover thousands of reports on the topic. But what about Russian men? Do they marry foreign women? Let’s find out.

Do Russian men also marry women from other countries?

Technically, any female who isn’t a citizen of Russia is a foreign woman to a local man. Thus, of course, Russian men marry foreign women. Marriages between citizens of Russia and other 14 republics of the former USSR are quite typical.

Soviet Union included 15 national republics and citizens of one often married someone from another nation, since people moved a lot around the country for study or work.

Even though the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991 (about 30 years ago), citizens of the participating republics still gain access to most of the countries that used to be part of it quite easily, including residence permits that allow to live and work there. It is only Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania that are not as easily accessible after joining the European Union.

This is why there are a lot of citizens from other countries that used to be part of the USSR who live in Russia, there are women among them, too. Sometimes they marry local men. For instance, there are plenty of Ukrainian, Belarusian, Kazakh ladies living in Russia. Some of them are married to locals, which technically makes them “foreign wives”.

But you probably want to know whether guys from Russia are also in demand among western females, similar to “Russian brides”?

Are men from Russia in demand as excellent grooms for western females?

No, there is no such trend online at the moment where guys from Russia seek connections with western women with a view to a life-long relationship.

There are plenty of websites that list ads of girls from Russia who’d love to connect with a man from the USA, Canada, Europe, or Australia. But there are no portals offering such contacts between Russian guys and American females, for instance.

Why not?

Obviously, there is no demand.

Apparently, there were attempts to offer such matches, but they didn’t succeed commercially, and got shut down.

You see, one of the reasons why girls from Russia seek partners abroad is because there are not enough men for all the women (86 males for 100 females).

But guys have enough choice and feel like kings being able to pick and choose. Why would they wish to move away from being in demand?

Of course, there are guys from Moscow, St. Petersburg, or Novosibirsk, who immigrated to other countries and they date locally and often marry local ladies. But strangely enough, many of them keep looking for a match among other Russians.

If you ask these guys, they would probably talk about sharing the cultural heritage and language, which makes it easier to communicate. But the truth is, they simply love being “the king of the castle” in a relationship with a Russian woman, which is what they are accustomed to. Equality in relationships is not easy for the males who grew up and matured in the Soviet Union or post-USSR Russia.

Although the guys who were born in the ex-USSR but spent most of their youth in a western country are quite westernized and connect with local females easily. They may still consider themselves Russians, but they have quite a different psychological makeup.

So, the answer to the question about Russian men marrying foreign women is simple. Yes, they do marry foreign girls, including ladies from western countries, but it’s quite a different story from Russian brides seeking love abroad.
