The short answer to the question, whether age matters for a 30-year-old woman falling for a 40-year-old man, NO.
(If she was 18 and he was 28, then the answer would be, YES.)
Does age really matter in relationships?
By the age of 30 a woman knows herself very well, what she wants and likes, and so is the man of 40.
If you feel genuinely attracted to each other and you are very comfortable together, this is what matters. The quality of the relationship is more important than the age difference.
Of course, unless the younger person is extremely mature, it should not be a generation-wide gap. Although some couples do manage to live happily with such gaps.
Some people do mature early, but overall, probably the age of 25 is when people start having a pretty good self-understanding and ability to manage emotions.
In some countries relationships with an age gap are viewed more favourably than in others. For example, if you talk to Eastern European women (aka Russian brides), they definitely put a higher emphasis on mutual respect and understanding in a couple, rather than the age of partners.
The main belief in their culture is, “If it’s true love, age doesn’t matter.”
Discussions about age gaps
Over the years, we had extensive discussions about the importance of being close in maturity, biologically and mentally.
The short conclusion is that people in countries where life is harsh mature sooner. Just like soldiers who came through wars were coming home experienced and wise, so are the citizens of countries that are less fortunate than the lands of milk and honey.
A wide variety of experiences makes Russian women mature at younger ages in some regards, while they still look youthful on the outside. It could be even hard for them to communicate with guys of the same age because of the such difference in experiences in life.
However, there are also many Russian women who feel that 5-year gap is too much, and would prefer a man who was born in the same year as herself or even younger. There are different preferences, but overall, girls from Russia would prefer a man to be slightly older.

Personally I don’t mind a 10-year gap in case the man is older and the woman is older than 18. Many of us have heard that men develop slower and in some aspects of life it’s true. When the man is older, he and his partner are approximately at the same level to be a harmonious couple.
Well, age gap does not bother me, moreover men who are at least 5 years older attract me more because women become mature earlier, whereas most males are ready for relationship after 23 I’d say. And it is important for both partners to have goals in life and willing to have common plans.
It can be a real problem if the girl is about 20 years old. A man of 30 and more years old can be divorced and embarrassed with children, and it will negatively affect the relationship. After 40 years, it has less importance because both partners usually have a past and are more equal.
