Teachers in Ukraine earn only USD 3.7 thousand annually (USD 310 monthly). By comparison, educators in developed countries get pay checks that are 10-30 times higher, OECD data shows.
Wages of Ukrainian women working as teachers
Many Ukrainian women who are looking for partners abroad work as teachers. Their wages are below average monthly remuneration levels, which are already not too high (only USD 390 monthly). By comparison, teacher’s salaries are about US $310, which is 20% lower.
In the majority of developed countries educators earn 10 times more, and in places like Luxemburg wages are 30 times higher.
Although some specialists in Ukraine do get salaries comparable with these people in western countries achieve (IT industry, business), the majority of workers can only hope for about average earnings.
Certainly, the costs of life and property in Ukraine are also substantially lower than in developed countries, but so are the comparable standards: Homes in Ukraine are much smaller in size and the consumer basket includes mostly basic food and needs.
Rating of countries where educators get the highest wages
The data from OECD (2018) compared the earnings of educators in developed countries, when calculated in US Dollars.
- The lowest number on the graph shows earnings of primary and pre-primary educators without experience.
- The highest number shows how much high school teachers with 15-year experience are earning.
- The difference in earnings may wary as much as 3 times within the same national destination ($32,485 vs. $90,225 in South Korea).
By comparison, education specialists in Ukraine earn ridiculously low salaries, but it is applicable to all industries, including the medical field.

Altogether, earnings of educators in 37 locations were compared, Finance.ua reported.
In Ukraine, the average monthly remuneration in 2020 (January to August) was on the level of 11,100 hryvnia (USD 390), according to the official statistics. Pay checks of educational workers were on average only 8,806 hryvnia (USD 310).
