Biking though nuclear wasteland
It’s safe for the health of the tourists to move around without touching things or deviating from the path through Chernobyl zone.
Tourists wishing to pedal through the zone have to abide by the rules though.
- Only organized tour groups are allowed on the path.
- Two managers per group oversee each tour.
- There is also a safety transport accompanying each group in case of any emergencies.
Special stopovers had been set up along the path of the excursion. There are regular checks of the radiation levels conducted as well. The organizers ensure that the allowable doses of radiation per person wouldn’t be exceeded, Finance.ua reported.
The path of the bicycle excursion goes through several villages that have been standing empty since 1986 when a man-made accident at the nuclear power plant near the town of Pripyat turned the lives of thousands of Ukrainians upside down. Residents had to urgently evacuate and left all their belonging behind, as they didn’t know they would never come back.
