True love exists, a 77-year-old Ukrainian woman believes. 60 years after parting with her childhood sweetheart, she got married to him in a small village in Ukraine. Anna Pikalyuk thinks it’s destiny.
Childhood sweethearts marry in Ukraine 60 years after parting
Anna’s new husband Anatoly Babich is 79, KP.ua reported.
They used to live 100 meters apart from each other, but after finishing Grade 8 Anatoly left to study in the city. At the time all young men were sent to Tselina (“virgin land”), to set up farms and build towns in the middle of nowhere. Anatoly, too, was sent to work in distant lands, got married there and came home with a wife.
Anna didn’t hold grudges and preferred to remain good neighbours. In small villages all people know each other. Soon she also got married and had a daughter. The girl studied to become a lawyer and lives in Zhitomir.
Anatoly didn’t have kids in his marriage.
10 years go Anna’s husband died. After he passed away, Anna was thinking about moving in with her daughter, as living alone was uncomfortable. This is when her neighbour and childhood love started to come with visits. At first it was just as a neighbourly thing, with no more than a friendly chatter, but when Anatoly’s wife passed away 2 years ago, their relationship changed.
Things started to progress quickly and they decided to get married. The whole village was celebrating the wedding. Anna’s daughter and grandkids paid for a limousine and a party.
The newlywed wife is a bit shy about telling her story and tries to downplay the whole thing, but she is convinced it was destined for them to be together.
Another wedding 60 years after
Ukrainians Raisa and Nicolay Zhuravlev also got had a big wedding 60 years after, but this was the second time they did it. The pair got married in 1959, KP.ua reports, but they didn’t have a big banquet at the time.
For their “brilliant” wedding anniversary kids and grandkids set a big party to celebrate their 6 decades together.
The father told daughter Larisa that they didn’t have a wedding because of tough life and poverty in 1950s. She talked to her brother and they decided to surprise parents with a beautiful celebration.
The registrar office was involved, arranging a special honorary ceremony for the couple. The 82-year-old “bride” got a professional makeup session and hair styling, as well as a white dress.
After the ceremony the couple went on a tour around the city in an limousine and then to a large party with friends and family at a restaurant.
When the pair got married in 1959, they didn’t even have enough money to buy a bed and were sleeping on a mattress on a floor.
The secret to a long a happy life as a couple is in treasuring each other, Raisa says. “Our family is the cathedral of our life,” she said.
The same ideas the parents taught to their kids. Daughter Larisa is married to her husband for 40 years.
